MISSING OUT OR FEELING CHEATED: AGING: THE TRUTH (CONCLUSION)

Not all of us mature in the same way; some age quickly, others slowly. Those who do better usually have genetics on their side (they come from a long-lived family) or do better simply because in their early years they have taken elementary precautions. Any man who in his early twenties starts taking care of himself with healthy eating habits, exercise and skin grooming will certainly fare better than the man who takes no care at all and indulges in tobacco, alcohol, drugs and so-called mind-enhancing substances, all of which in time ravage the body inside and out.

As our bodies age, the heart, lungs and muscles weaken generally — but within the time span of youth and M-M this deterioration should be suspected rather than obvious. Muscles get weaker, the body becomes stiffer, it is slower to heal if injured. It is good insurance during the thirties to take some form of regular exercise in order to keep the total body and its workings in trim. For most men two forty-minute workouts a week are ideal or a twenty-minute swim three times a week excellent. If this regular pattern continues into the forties and fifties there is nothing to be lost and all to be gained. The body will be at its best.

But … it will still age.
