MALE MENOPAUSE: HEALTH AND CHECK-UPS – GENITAL HERPES

This is a virus condition similar to the facial cold sores that sometimes appear around the lips except that in this instance the sores are around the genital or anal areas. A few days after being infected the sores appear. They are painful, burning and often weeping. After four days they probably dry up and within ten days only a faint set of scars remains.

At this point the disease appears to have gone but, and this is important, it is only dormant. Although new remedies and medicines are being introduced constantly there is not yet a guaranteed cure. After an interval of weeks, maybe months, the herpes reappear. Cream and ointments will calm the sores.

Genital herpes is highly contagious and a man with herpes on his penis will undoubtedly affect his partner during sexual play. As a rule sex should be avoided until herpes has disappeared but the infected person may still be contagious. It has become the accepted norm in some circles for infected persons to mention that they are carriers of the virus even when their own cases are dormant and appear to have disappeared. This gives the prospective partner opportunity to change his or her mind if the risks involved are more than he or she is prepared to take.
