FALSE SEA ONION (ORNITHOGALUM CAUDATUM)

This onion is related to the lilaceous plant known as starflower. Its crushed leaves when used as a poultice are an effective remedy for a number of ailments; for example, wrap around the neck to alleviate headaches and sore throats; for rheumatism apply to the painful areas. They are also efficacious in cases of blood poisoning, suppurations and serious insect stings. Where splinters or thorns are buried in the skin and difficult to extract, the crushed leaves will draw them to the surface, thus averting the need for more unpleasant treatment.
