5 PROVEN WAYS TO GET RID OF OILY SKIN
Oily skin is a problem that just about everyone has at one time or another. Most people associate oily skin with adolescence, but factors such as hormones, stress, extreme heat, and hectic schedules can make it a problem for adults as well. Since the skin is a mirror of the inside of a person’s body, proper nutrition and exercise are just as important as they are to your general health. If your general health on the inside is not good, your skin will simply be a reflection of that poor health.
In most cases, oily skin is not a problem that needs medical treatment. The sheen you may see on your face if you have especially oily skin is, in part, due to perspiration that mixes with the oil. Exactly what you do to control oil depends on how far you want to go, but there are methods of controlling the problem. Here are five proven ways to get rid of oily skin:
1) Aluminum Chloride— if your skin oiliness is especially severe, making you uncomfortable’ there are several topical preparations which contain an active ingredient found in many antiperspirants—aluminum chloride. Such preparations will help shut down some of the activity of the sweat glands and alleviate the unattractive sheen on your skin. Aluminum chloride preparations should only be used to treat extreme cases, and only then under the supervision of a dermatologist.
Glycolic acid can also be used as an effective oil-control measure. This acid works by removing dead cells that might clog pores and prevent oil from being distributed evenly. Available without a prescription, glycolic acid can be a very effective measure against oily skin.
2) Cleansing— controlling mature oily skin requires a method of cleaning without drying out the skin. Oily skin should be cleaned with fingertips rather than stiff washcloths and other types of scrubs. This type of cleansing should only be done two or three times a day with sensitive skin cleansers. It is best to avoid cleansers that are designed for acne. Also avoid astringent or abrasive cleansers. Look for a cleanser labeled, “synthetic”, which is designed to not leave deposits on your skin if you use hard water.
Removing soap reside is the final part of the cleansing process. This should be done with a mild astringent in order to avoid overdrying. Most skin-care- product companies now feature a line of astringents that are especially designed for this part of the skin cleaning process.
3) Moisturizers— Modern moisturizers help the skin hold onto its own moisture rather than adding it on from the outside. These moisturizers are available in oil-free formulas that help skin maintain its balance, allows better make-up application, and protects the skin from the sun’s ultra violet rays. If you choose to use a moisturizer, be sure to read the label and select only those products that are designated for use on “oily skin”.
4) Water-based Make-up— most women with oily skin also experience
problems with make-up. The solution is to use only makeup for oily skin that is water-based. Today’s water-based foundations allow a woman with oily skin to achieve whatever type finish she desires. If you want lots of coverage to hide imperfections, you can choose completely oil-free make-up designed for just such an application. There are also sheer make-up products, suitable for women who don’t want much coverage.
5) Powder— a dusting of loose powder is essential if you have oily skin and you use make-up. Today’s powder can absorb excess oil, help moisturize, and control oil on your skin.
